Welcome to Blaggers’ online poker diary.

I play online poker regularly (almost daily) in a smallish, select private poker league. Hopefully I will not upset any of the people in the league with my ramblings and I apologise in advance if any do take offence.

Hopefully the regular members know me well enough by now, to realise that I am sincere when I say I really enjoy the camraderie and banter we all share when in a game or in the Paltalk© chat room and that no offence is ever intended.

Any member that wishes their name or nickname removed from any post made here, need only to give me a gentle nudge (or no doubt a swift boot up the rear-end) and I’ll of course get on the case.

I’ll try and update the blog on a daily basis, though no promises. You are all welcome to make comments and if you would like me to link to your own blogs and webpages, that’ll be cool too.

Where to start?

Last night there was an Omaha Hi-Lo tournament which was pretty much a non event for me. Because…

I did my usual thing of having a lil’ nap on the couch after a supper and a long day. Only awakening with 7 minutes before the game was kicking off!

Barely enough time to get the kettle on and the tea brewing and my munchies all ready.

But, I managed to get settled down in time, just. Sitting there with vertical hair, sleep dust in my blinking eyes and the hot tea burning my tongue, trying to get ‘in shape’ mentally for the game.

Fat chance! One thing any poker player knows is, if your head isn’t on your game 100% then your chips are not in your game 100% either. And both my head and chips were soon off elsewhere, one to the pillow and the other to some one else’s stack.

I actually won 2 or 3 hands right off, but that was down to luck and providence rather than any poker playing acumen on my part. I seem to dreamily recall having quad 6’s that netted me about.. umm 45 chips.

That hand almost woke me up! Yet it didn’t and I didn’t help matters much, by not entering the chat room, where ‘Dallas’ would have no doubt shook the cobwebs of sleep away, with a “Hell no friggin way!” or a “I knew I should have called!” exploding from my headset.

Nope, instead I played a beautiful but sleep encouraging album by India Arie. I was mellow and laid back to literally almost horizontal proportions.. Ahh it’s only Omaha Hi-Lo, PL, methinks as I slide further down in the chair, ‘yeah, a mellow kind of easy chasing sorta game‘.

And then? The vultures at my table took full advantage of my attitude, stripping the chips away like so much vulture food thingy stuff. Not that I expected anything else to happen really, I mean, we were playing poker, right? The game that, so long as you have a chip and a chair and are “in”, turns us all into selfish, greedy, grabbing, competitive, lying, untrustworthy barbarians. Man, what a great game, no wonder I love it so much.

I am not even sure who won the game eventually? I think ‘Dallas’ was chip leader when I reached for the off button. Whoever won, well done you must have played well and you must have certainly been wide awake.

Hopefully I’ll be able to comment more on the game tonight rather than on my state of drowsiness…
Tonight Matthew, I will be…. “wide awake”…
